GMO PRODUCTION

The crops reproduction in acres is shown over time. Many crops started to gain more acres of land as soon as the Green Revolution hit.

BT CORN

Bt corn was introduced in 1994, when commercial sale of genetically modified crops began. Corn has always been a very high demanding crop, but large amounts of corn were ruined each year due to insects. Scientist inserted Bacillus thuringiensis, or BT, into the corn that produces a crystal toxin, killing pesticides.BT allows more corn to be fed worldwide.

TRANSGENIC TOMATO

The tomato was genetically engineered to have a longer shelf life, or to last longer at home. Currently scientist are working on a tomato in order to resist pesticides, and to add more nutritional value. Scientist are still working on engineering the tomato because of a risk in allergies. Many people become highly allergic to many things that science insert into the DNA of crops.

RODENTS

Rodents are genetically engineered in order to test medicines for diseases, without having to test on humans. Scientist use rodents to research genes, and they use them as human models. With using rodents as models instead of humans, we can try many different medicines without having to worry about death.
