BACKGROUND INFO

What are GMOs?

Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs, are living things whose genetic material has been alternated. GMOs did not occur naturally by mating or natural recombination, but made in a laboratory. It allows selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism into another, also between non-related species. Genetically modified crops have a specific use in agriculture because they are vital to human development and growth by promoting a healthier life style.

Why Use GMOs?

Genetically Modified Organisms are made in order for food to last longer, such as resistance to the browning of apples. It allows specific traits of other organisms to be transferred to plants. Plants based on GM organisms is to improve crop protection. The GM crops currently on the market are mainly aimed at an increased level of crop protection through the introduction of resistance against plant diseases caused by insects or viruses or through increased tolerance towards herbicides.

BENEFITS

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. Let your users get to know you.

Less water and pesticides are being put on plants, with a few amount of land needed to grow. Less money is used to spend on growing food, which is helping other foreign countries end hunger. The less amount of water saves the environment, and the less pesticides let the crops last longer.

Tillage in agriculture is described as digging, or shoveling the soil. This process ruins the soil structure, and causes more erosion and runoff. By using GMOs, farmers leave tilling in the past, helping the environment. This also saves insects affected, such as earthworms.

STEPS TO MAKE A GMO

Step 1: Identify a trait that you, or the consumer, will be interested in

Step 2: Isolate the trait, or distract the DNA, and make millions of copies.

Step 3: Insert the trait that was chosen into the organism that will be produced.

Step 4: Once the new organism begins to grow, just add water and enjoy the final product!
